First smoke control damper with environmental product declaration

  • Analysed the entire life cycle of the EK90 smoke control damper, EK92 series
  • Systematic data collection on environmental impact
  • Maintenance-free and contribution to energy efficiency as important criteria

The CE-certified smoke control damper EK90, series EK92, from Wildeboer Bauteile GmbH is the first product on the market to have an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). The document provides comprehensive data on the environmental impact of the smoke control damper as a contribution to the ecological assessment of sustainable building projects. The EPD is based on the Product Category Rule (PCR) for fire dampers, which the manufacturer has expanded to include requirements for smoke control dampers in consultation with the Institut Bauen und Umwelt (IBU) and the German Council of Experts. Accordingly, high quality standards were set for the life cycle assessment. The EPD is listed on the ECO platform so that it can be recognised in other European countries. In addition, the data from the document will soon be available in the free online building materials database (ÖKOBAUDAT) of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).

The environmental product declaration of the MA-classified smoke control damper covers its entire life cycle from production to disposal. The solution is characterised above all by its maintenance-free design and its contribution to energy efficiency. Thanks to a special sealing system, the smoke control damper has a significantly larger internal cross-section, which leads to significantly lower pressure losses. With a very short minimum installation length of 350 mm, the product also offers great flexibility for installation in all standard installation situations. The solution complies with the construction products list and can also be opened after 25 minutes of full fire exposure. With the seventh EPD for its products, the manufacturer is consistently continuing its commitment to greater sustainability in the construction industry.
